Head of Engineering - Hardware
About Eddytec
We are a young ambitious hardware startup revolutionising non-destructive testing (NDT) using advanced eddy current technologies. Our mission is to make testing of carbon fibre composites fast and simple, enabling industries such as aerospace, energy, med tech, and others to further adopt these high-performance materials and achieve their sustainability goals while saving cost.
The role of Head of Engineering
We are looking for a Head of Engineering with a hardware design and/or sensor development background. As part of the leadership team, you will be instrumental in successfully designing, developing, and delivering commercially ready non-destructive testing solutions for carbon fibre composites - including hardware, electronics and software components. You will guide and actively support your team through customer trials that demonstrate the technology, and its readiness for deployment and product launch.
As an ideal candidate, you have built a distinguished career taking on the role of an individual contributor before moving into leadership positions in a startup or R&D environment. You are now known for your technical prowess, uncanny attention to detail, unconditional commitment to quality, and ability to lead by example.
How you'll make an impact:
Leading the Eddytec Engineering team and actively contributing to the development of innovative non-destructive testing prototypes.
Continually developing, owning, and communicating product requirement documents and roadmaps for Eddytec’s sensing solutions.
Driving the maturation of advanced eddy-current technologies towards TRL 7, including oversight of customer trials to demonstrate readiness for deployment.
Capturing, documenting, and distilling feedback from customers and prospects to steer product development.
Collaborating closely with business development to build and maintain close customer relationships and ensure success.
Collaborating with the leadership team to align technical efforts with strategic objectives.
Fostering a high-performing and cohesive team culture by mentoring team members and encouraging knowledge sharing.
Implementing standardised engineering tools and processes to improve operational consistency and efficiency.
Representing the engineering team in stakeholder meetings, providing clear communication of project goals, progress, and results.
What makes you a good fit:
7+ years of demonstrated success in defining and delivering complex hardware products with integrated software within a startup and/or scaleup environment.
Hands-on experience maturing technologies from TRL 4 to TRL 7.
Detail-oriented with exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Passionate about engaging with and learning from customers.
Academic background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or computer science.
Naturally curious and thrive on challenges, with exceptional problem-solving skills, flexible thinking, and a knack for innovative solutions.
Confident and fair team player who thrives in their role while actively supporting and celebrating the achievements of colleagues.
Experienced in leading diverse technical teams, embracing a variety of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives
Please note, that you must have a valid working permit for the Netherlands.
